Autumn in the High Country by Barbara Carvallo

Autumn chases Dawn into the light every morning now.  The breeze picks up her feet and dances windy as the Sun sets, splashing September’s gold, crimson and indigo spray from the pool of the Western sky.  The Mighty Rockies breathe the scent of pine and early changing Aspen down over the Prairie.  I imagine I smell the crisp clean chill that is the prelude to Winter drifting from the great red-stone canyon that lines the beautiful Boulder Creek running wild with the blood of the Goddess.  How insignificant we are in the face of such grandeur.  Our schemes and plots are trivial when set beside the glory of the smallest flower.  Daily my home reminds me that we are as the least speck of dust in the eye of the Great Mother who created my Colorado, and if there is a place more beautiful I have never seen it on this side of dreaming or the other.

Jung on Depression by Barbara Carvallo

As I understand Jungian theory, he based his concept of depression on his theory of the libido.  In Jung’s approach to analytical psychology he viewed the libido as a psychological component of life energy or what is called the Chi in Eastern religions.  This is not to be confused with the Freudian theory of the libido as sexual energy.

In Jung’s view the libido drives the organism to grow and develop.  It moves toward balance – the balance between the conscious and the unconscious to include the Shadow, between the male and female parts of the psyche and between the introverted and extroverted sides of the ego.  The purpose of this balancing is to achieve what Dr. Jung called individuation or the wholeness of self realization.

When the ego is in a state of imbalance between its extroverted and introverted aspects, with the extroverted holding sway, introversion brings forward unconscious material in an attempt to balance ego’s attitude.  Jung believed that introversion exhausts the ego.  Depression then becomes the manifestation of the exhausted ego.

The libido while balancing opposition contains opposition.  Thus, Jung thought that it held both the drive to live and the drive to die.

As a hereditary and lifelong Pagan I do not believe that life is the beginning or death the end.  As a devout follower of the Goddess, Her mysteries and mysticism, I believe that we select a life that contains a path.  Goddess gives us each our own light with which to follow that path.  All we can do is follow our light as far and as long as we can – leaning as we go.  For in reality it is the lessons and not the life we have chosen.

Weekend in the Rabbit Hole by Peno Hardesty

the tiny yellow munchkin is getting along--seems he has some difficulty with the whole walking thing though--he walks on his front legs with his butt and hind legs elevated--he falls---he seems to enjoy being outside for a while where he lifts his head to the sky and sucks the air---he signals he is done with a rather loud meow and then settles in the corner with his mother--

the fla courts upheld the law that forbids a doctor from asking a patient about guns in the home

a young couple from the county north of here were visiting with friends last night when the friend began to show off his gun collection---somehow a 22 hand gun fired-- reportedly at point blank range--- into the head of the young woman---doctors tried to save her unborn baby but at only 5 months gestation he did not make it---neither did she

a small private plane had some trouble and executed a beach landing in the county south of here----a father walking on the beach was killed and his daughter is critical--the occupants of the plane are uninjured----

Charlie the emu from the other side of the woods is fine

an old friend is in shifa----doctor----a little boy woke from
a coma and smiled-----

blessings

I Prayed by Peno Hardesty

and so it seems that prayer is once again a part of my conversation---the storms are strong--last night close lightening --blinding rain---powerout----I heard the call a rather frantic call --the dogs woke from their sleep---on the steps so wet was a cat---she showed no fear when the dogs appeared she just kept crying but would not let me near her----I prayed--I prayed not for myself nor my own amusement but I prayed for guidance---I prayed as the rain fell---I prayed as I called the dogs back so that the poor cat could sit under the overhang out of the rain---I prayed as the lightening lit the dark for a moment and I prayed as the rain lightened----the thunder and lightening seemed to move into the distance and the rain although steady was not hard--I prayed as flashlight in hand I stepped outside---I prayed as the cat watched me stand in the rain as she sat under the overhang--I prayed and I listened and I thought---no just imagination---I listened and I walked through the flooded yard toward the gate---sweeping ahead of me with the light---the thunder is closer and the current of rain water is flowing down the street----I paused--water over my ankles and prayed---as I turned to go back inside I took one more look into the darkened street---the lightening struck somewhere with a terrible crash and lit the night---caught in the current of rain water but pressed against a tree I saw something----he is yellow and quite small---dry now and well nursed---mamma waited by the steps until I returned and showed her the soaked kitten---she followed me inside past the dogs and the other cats---she watched as I dried him off and then she settled on my lap and nursed him-----I prayed and I am grateful

Butterfly Garden by Barbara Carvallo

Just when you think that the world has gone totally mad a butterfly shows up in your garden to remind you that what you think is reality is very insignificant compared to the majesty and beauty of Goddess Green World.
